Physician, heal thyself. Those charges were fraudulent and everyone knew it. The video evidence clearly showed it was self-defense. Rittenhouse was/is a dick, but he wasn't guilty of what he was accused of. But hey, keep dying on this hill. Regardless of who or how many might have considered them "heroes", they were both clear examples of overzealous prosecutions. In the Rittenhouse case, the evidence at trial exposed that the claims against him were just as fraudulent as many of the ones ICE has been caught making against numerous protesters and even non-protesters who get caught up in their raids. In the Zimmerman case, there were doubts about his story, but the prosecution clearly never had the evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

It definitely could, but I think many of them can't even conceive of that. They think they're magically protected or immune from government abuse as long whoever's in charge has the right letter next to his name.

A lot of Americans are starting to feel that way, not just the far left like Zed, because ICE does not behave even remotely like normal law enforcement. You might have noticed that no one in this thread apart from you and one other poster have been defending or making excuses for them. Even most of the pro-Trump MAGAs are starting to realize how having a government organization that murders with impunity could be detrimental to them under a future administration. . .

Quite a few oppressive regimes fit that model. Western Europe also went kind of crazy with it after WW2 in response to what the Germans did. The Soviet version of it was the worst, though.

I get the logic behind that, but sometimes the picadores go too far. At the last fight I went to, the audience was booing because the picador was literally goring the bulls in the back. By the end, they were literally throwing empty bottles and other stuff into the ring. The audience wants to at least have the illusion that the bull has a sporting chance and that the matador is putting himself at a significant risk of danger, rather than the highly controlled execution/slaughter that it actually is.
